CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH

Belleville, Illinois

Getting to Know Us!

Calvary Lutheran Church was founded in 1957

as a mission congregation of the United Lutheran Church in America.  Upon the merger of the three major Lutheran church bodies in 1987, Calvary became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Calvary provides an active and caring ministry in Belleville and the surrounding areas.  The Care Ministry Program trains volunteers to visit and serve communion to the shut-in and hospitalized.  In addition to supporting the mission programs of the ELCA and Lutheran World Relief, the members of Calvary Lutheran also support local social and service agencies.  We provide a meeting place for Al-Anon and have planted a community garden to provide nutritious fruits and vegetables for the hungry.

Our church building and adjoining fellowship hall are both handicapped-accessible.  The Chancel was remodeled to remove steps that posed a barrier to those with physical disabilities.  The lectern and pulpit were redesigned to provide opportunities for all members to be involved as readers or worship assistants.  The restrooms in the narthex are also fully accessible.

Calvary is served by Interim Pastor Richard Brendel and the Synodically Authorized Ministry Team of Diane Maertens, Loretta Garing, and Carol Maertens.  They can be reached by calling the church office at 618-397-4989 or by email  pastoralteam@calvarybelleville.org

The members of Calvary would like to invite you to join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00.  Fellowship follows in the Norma Carlson Fellowship Hall.  We would love to have you!

Congratulations Pastor Buhs!
